Day 1: Thursday, 5th August 1999

Meeting the group in Bucharest. Departure to Busteni, locality situated at the altitude of 880m, known also as the "City of the Climbers". Located on the Prahova Valley, it is watched by the dense coniferous woods from where are gushing aggressive and impressive the rock walls of the Bucegi Mountain’s sides - "The Travel’s Cradle of Romanian Climbers". Accommodation at Silva 3* hotel in Busteni. Optional: a short walking to the "Urlatoarea Waterfall" on the Valley of the Big Knee Pines.


Day 2: Friday, 6th August 1999

Departure by the telecabin up to "Babele" (The Old Women). This splendide route has a level difference of 1235m and 4351m length. Once arrived up, you can admire the micro relief forms with the look of mushrooms named "Babele", the antropomorphyc form with a human head named "Sfinxul" (The Sphinx), the television relay placed on the Costila Peak and the Hero’s Cross on the Caraiman Peak - this is the highest cross in Europe with a height of 33m. Optional: a walk to the Omu Peak (2505 m), the highest peak in Bucegi Mountains, which is offering an impressive panorama to the Prahova Valley, "Tara Barsei", "Culmea Scara" (Scara Peak), "Gaura" (The Hole), Bran. Departure to Bran Village, the literary license of the Dracula Palace location. Outside visit of Bran Castle. Those who do not wish to go walking to Bran could come back to Busteni by the funicular and would go by minibus to Bran. Departure via Rasnov - Zarnesti to the Piatra Craiului mountains - the proud of the mountains from Tara Barsei. Arrival at "Plaiul Foii" (alt. 850m). Here you will admire the stone coles that represent Piatra Craiului, who culminate in the magnificent toothed ridge similarly to a giant backbone of a prehistoric animal. Accommodation to the Plaiul Foii cabana or in tents.


Day 3: Saturday, 7th August 1999

Optional round trip in Piatra Craiului for the experimented climbers. The route will be choose pending of the whether, experience, equipment, number of tourist. There are multitude of variants: "Braul de Mijloc" where we could meet chamois and unique Romanian flowers, a portion from Northern Crest, "Padina lui Calinet" - a succession of obliging, the Sandy Chimney, the Hopes Refuge, Edge of Timbale - a stunning edge who start from Padina lui Calinet, Bridges Valley, "Valcelul cu Fereastra" with a splendid archway, "Braul Cioranga" - a continuation of "Braul de Mijloc". For beginners: The Glades under Barc, the Saint Paraschiva Chapel, arranged in a cave. Accommodation in "Plaiul Foii" Chalet or in tents.


Day 4: Sunday, 8th August 1999

Departure to Fagaras - the mountain surnamed "The Transylvania’s Alps" - the highest of Romania, via Transfagarasan and Balea Waterfalls. Accommodation to the former Ceausescu's challet (the comunist leader of Romania until 1989), Balea Lake, Capra Chalet or in tents. Optional short walk to "Iezerul Caprei" and "Saua Paltinului".


Day 5: Monday, 9th August 1999

Departure to Vidraru Lake and Barrage. Stop in Poienari, visit the historic fortress "Dracula" in Poienari. Visit Cutea de Arges Monastery, Ramnicu Valcea and Hurezi Monastery. Continuation via Hateg to Retezat Mountain. Accommodation to Rotunda Chalet, Gura Zlata or camping in Poiana Pelegii.


Day 6: Tuesday, 10th August 1999

Mountain circuits for experimented climbers who are camping in Poiana Pelegii. Thematic circuits for beginner tourists. Accommodation to Rotunda Chalet, Gura Zlata or camping in Poiana Pelegii.


Day 7: Wednesday, 11th August 1999

The big day of the Eclipse. The place will be establish for both categories of tourists and weather forecast (Bucura Peak, Pelegii or Slavei). Observing the eclipse within his visibility area of high altitude Retezat (umbral duration 2m22s).


Day 8: Thursday, 12th August 1999

Mountain circuits for experimented climbers, thematic circuits for beginner tourists. Accommodation to Rotunda Chalet, Gura Zlata or camping in Poiana Pelegii.


Day 9: Friday, 13th August 1999

Mountain circuits for experimented tourists, thematic circuits for beginners. Accommodation to Rotunda Chalet, Gura Zlata or camping in Poiana Pelegii.


Day 10: Saturday, 14th August 1999

On the way to Brasov stop to Deva and Hunedoara, visit Huniazi Castle, Sebes and Sibiu. City tour and lunch. Romanian dinner with folkmusic band to "Outlaw Hut" in Poiana Brasov. Accommodation in Brasov at Capitol 3* hotel or similar.


Day 11: Sunday, 15th August 1999

Short city tour of the mediaeval Brasov. Stop to Sinaia for visit the monastery. If there is enough time, possible visit to the famous Peles Castle. Departure to Bucharest late, arrival late in the afternoon.




Variant I (hotel, chalet, tent accommodation)

Price of the package: 525 US$/pers, includes: accommodation with half board (2 nights in hotel, one night in chalet, 7 nights in tent), transportation by coach, license to enter in the reservation Natural Park Retezat, daily trips (mountain or thematic) with specialized guides. The participants must have their own sleeping bag, adequately footwear and clothes. The price is valid for a group of 15 persons.
Deposit: 250 US$/pers, payable to TSE 99 in Canada until May 1st, 1999;
Balance: 275 US$/pers, payable to Romantic Travel in Romania until 1st July 1999.

Variant II (hotel, chalet accommodation)

Price of the package: 570 US$/pers, includes: accommodation with half board (2 nights in hotel, 8 nights in chalet), transportation by coach, license to enter in the reservation Natural Park Retezat, daily trips, mountains or thematic with specialized guides. The price is valid for a group of 15 persons.
Deposit: 250 US$/pers, payable to TSE 99 in Canada until May 1st, 1999;
Balance: 320 US$/pers, payable to Romantic Travel in Romania until 1st July 1999.
